Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get results?

Our instant drug and alcohol tests provide quick results within just minutes.

Laboratory-based drug and alcohol test results are generally released within 1-2 business days. If a nonnegative result is detected, it may take several additional days for the lab to release the final result as they conduct thorough confirmation testing.

DNA testing results are typically available within approximately 3 business days.

Background check results can often be ready within minutes, depending on the specific type of screen performed. However, manual county and state searches may require a longer processing time, sometimes taking up to 2 weeks, although certain results can be obtained on the same day.

Do I need an appointment?

DataPool accepts walk-ins for almost all of our services. Our walk-in hours are from 9am to 3:45pm, Monday through Friday.

Appointments are required for offsite mobile collections and for respirator fit testing.

Digital fingerprinting is scheduled through PrintScan and PrintScan requires you to make an appointment. After scheduling your appointment with PrintScan, you can come in anytime during our business hours.

DNA collections scheduled through DNA Diagnostic Center (DDC) will require you to make an appointment. You can come in anytime during 9am and 3:45pm on the day you are scheduled. If you require a different day, you will need to contact DDC.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you are coming in for a drug test and have received an emailed or texted form with a barcode—such as an ePassport, Qpassport, or a CRL FormFox drug test authorization form—you will need to bring that form or barcode with you, either displayed on your phone or printed out on paper.

All of our services require presentation of a valid government-issued photo ID for identity verification purposes. Examples of acceptable identification include a driver’s license, passport, state or country-issued ID card, or military ID. In some cases, a clear picture of your ID saved on your phone may be sufficient.

For legal DNA paternity collections, a valid government-issued photo ID is mandatory for all parties involved in the collection. Additionally, underage children should have a birth certificate and/or social security cards, if available, to complete the process.

Can I get a copy of my results?

If you are taking a drug and/or alcohol test for an employer, your test result will be released directly to the company, not to you personally. In this situation, you are considered a “donor” rather than a patient. The employer is covering the cost of the test and has an account with DataPool. You are undergoing the test as a condition of employment, which means you are donating your specimen for analysis. In many cases, DataPool’s role is limited to performing the specimen collection and we do not receive or handle the test results ourselves. Therefore, any questions or concerns you have regarding your drug test result should be directed to your employer, who will have access to the information.

If you are paying DataPool for your drug and/or alcohol test and the test is not related to employment purposes, you and only you will receive your test results directly from DataPool. However, you have the option to request and authorize that the results be sent to a third party of your choosing. The only exceptions to this rule occur if there is a court order, signed by a judge, that mandates the results be sent to specific parties, or if the testing is requested by the Department of Social Services or results are subpoenaed. In these situations, DataPool is required to comply with such legal or official requests.

In the case of DNA or paternity testing conducted through DataPool, when payment is made directly to DataPool, the party responsible for paying for the test will be the one to receive the results. If both parties choose to share the cost of the test, then both individuals will be ensured to receive the test results.

Background screening that is requested by an employer requires the candidate or employee to sign a formal authorization form. This form grants permission for the release of the screening results directly to the employer. Candidates or employees have the right to request a copy of their background screening results from the employer at any time.
